Precision matters

This afternoon we had the panel question and answer time with John MacArthur, RC Sproul, and Al Mohler. The combination of three men offer quite a formidable force in terms of their faithfulness and clarity of voice in theology and pastoral ministry. Starting with RC Sproul who is a seasoned and profound theologian philosopher, capable of teaching the deepest truths of the Christian faith to a child with amazing clarity and simplicity. He has been called by MacArthur as the Martin Luther of our day capable of dispensing the truth of God to the common man. John MacArthur, a seasoned pastor who has preached at Grace Church for 36 years! Well-known throughout the world as a master bible expositor and clear teacher of the bible, he brings to the table a wealth of pastoral insight and experience. Last but certainly not least, Al Mohler, Southern Baptist Seminary President who is considered as the evangelical voice of America. He is continually sought after by Newsweek, Time, CNN to offer evangelical insight — and that is just a list of secular media that pursues his opinion, not counting evangelicals who constantly pursue his opinion on matters of the day. However, in terms of life and ministry, his ability to articulate the doctrines of Christianity, biblically, historically, and theologically was anything short of breath-taking. That was what we experienced tonight as he along with Sproul and MacArthur articulated answer upon answer on common questions posed by the men at the conference.

Without turning this blog entry to a form of hero-worship, I do thank God for men like these who are so precise in their words when it comes to explaining the truth in their writings and in their preaching. It is exactly this precision and accuracy that has caused them to be so effective in their ministry by which the Spirit of God has blessed. This precision is such a model for every man who has been called by God to preach the Word, as an unashamed workman handling accuratey the word of truth.

The writer of Hebrews says, that the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two edged-sword. After this weekend, I’ve come to the reality than some men who preach, can unwittingly dull that blade of truth. It should be however, the careful handling of the Word which preserves that orignal and sharp edge of God’s precise and profound truth.
