Going into the Shepherd’s Conference, I knew that I would be taking a ton of notes from all the seminars and general sessions. The thought of bringing my laptop came to mind, however two reasons prevented me:
1) battery life is pretty lousy at ~ 90 minutes.
2) weight – I have a super-brick of a laptop to carry around.
So I decided to go with my old Palm Vx PDA. These older Palms have a battery life of about a week of regular use. However the main problem with PDAs is data entry. There is no way that I could “grafitti” fast enough to capture all the notes from class. So I decided to shop around on eBay for a Palm V compatible keyboard:

What an amazing little keyboard! I was very fortunate to find a brand-new portable keyboard for $0.99!! The keyboard itself is an engineering marvel. It folds to about the size of the Palm V and typing is just like typing on my laptop. When expanded it turns into a full-size keyboard. This little combo, was an absolutely help in my note-taking at the conference. Using my PDA was also far less distracting, w/o the distraction of email, surfing the web, having windows crash, etc.. everything just worked. When I got back after 5 days of note-taking, I still had half the battery left!
