The Apprentice meets high-tech

Reading through Joel on Software – Tuesday, May 03, 2005, they had an interesting article regarding how they’re hiring 4 summer interns to create a brand new software product in 10 weeks time while videoing the whole project from design, program, test, to roll-out. This project sounds alot like The Apprentice meets high-tech.

“Instead of wasting their talents giving them the usual dull
and unimportant tasks of a typical summer internship, we
decided to let the interns create a complete new software
product, from beginning to end, over the course of one summer.
With experienced software developers as mentors, the team will
design, program, test, and roll out a complete software product
over the course of one hectic summer, going from concept to
paying customers in about ten weeks.”

Very interesting way of documenting the progress of CS students’ work. This would actually be very helpful for those interested in software design and development. I wish I had this video when I was in college, I would have chosen possibly another career path ;)
