Our self-revealing God – no need for James Cameron to shed light
I’m coming in very late on this subject of the Jesus Tomb theory, but here’s a guy who explains the hard numbers on probabilities that the “statisticians” hired by James Cameron and his staff failed to account for. Here’s quote:
Scientific method demands a careful, systematic weighing of all the evidence, for and against. The documentarians have not done this. They have systematically ignored the unfavorable evidence: (1) they ignored those who should not be in the tomb, (2) they did not properly consider those who should be in the tomb; (3) they ignored the strong likelihood that Jesus could not be buried in the tomb. Their method is essentially, “Evidence that favors the theory is included. The rest is excluded.”
This is how a freak accident becomes a sure thing.
What they offer here is not science, but pseudo-science — polemic dressed in scientific language. Numbers and “tests” are trotted out, but only for the sake of appearance. The hypothesis is never actually in danger because the falsifying evidence is excised before the evaluation begins. In other words, the rules of the game are: heads they win, tails you lose. The game was rigged from the start.
While I appreciate the science or lack of science exposed in the James Cameron documentary, there is much more here being dismissed, namely the Scriptures as a reliable witness to the life and death of Jesus Christ.
The bible is not a science manual nor a math textbook, but the bible has proven to be a reliable historical document that accurately parallels events that have occurred throughout history. Dismissing the biblical evidence before endeavoring to dismantle any biblical figure should immediately raise red flags. Here is what the biblical evidence says regarding the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ:
1Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter,[b] and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
God is a self-revealing God desiring to reveal himself to us. It was no mistake that when Jesus rose from the dead, He chose to REVEAL Himself. He wanted to reveal himself to people to show that He rose from the dead. He wanted to REVEAL himself as the real-deal not a ghost, not a mystery, not a dream, but Himself raised from the dead.
Also notice how the above passage states carefully how Christ’s death and resurrection occurred, “according to the scriptures.” God emphasizes the reliability of His Word, the bible, to the events of Christ’s death and resurrection to the Scriptures.
No mystery, full and complete disclosure that He did indeed died and rise from the dead.
God desires to reveal Himself to men. That self-revelation is fulfilled in a person who walked this earth, Jesus Christ the Son of God. In fact the Scriptures tell us that the fullness of God is explained fully and clearly through Jesus Christ:
“No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.” – John 1:18
That is God spoke through prophets for His behalf, but the fullness of His self-revelation was realized in His Son. God reveals Himself physically through His Son and explains Himself through His Son!
Think about it. We would have no understanding of the Holy Spirit apart from Jesus Christ. We would have no understanding of the church apart from Jesus Christ. We would have no understanding of the end-times apart from Jesus Christ. We would have no understanding of the Trinity apart from Jesus Christ. We would have no understanding of eternal forgiveness apart from Jesus Christ.
All Christian theology made clear through the person and work of Jesus Christ.
So many are wasting time searching for God, trying to discover what happened to Jesus Christ – all the while ignoring what God has already declared, what God has already revealed in His Word about His Son who came to save sinners like you and me.
