Use of scripture in your theology

Kevin T Bauder offers some helpful advice on how NOT to use Scripture in shaping your theology.  Briefly he begins, what looks to be a two part essay, by listing 5 things you shouldn’t do with the scriptures to support your theology:

1) Use extra-biblical sources to support a theological position
2) Insert theological ideas where the Scriptures are silent.
3) Argue from possibility rather than probability.
4) Proof-texting – creating a long list of bible verses to support your position
5) Hijacking the text – forcing the biblical text to say something its author did not intend.
