Glory Revealed – The word of God in Worship

I just downloaded the new Glory Revealed album.  Its a compilation of songs by various Christian artists.  What attracted me to the Album was the song I heard, “By His Wounds” based on Isaiah 53.  After googling for the song I discovered an entire album of songs lyrically based on the Scriptures.  Here’s the album’s own words:

If the Word of God is more powerful than the pen of man, who better to help write our worship songs? Who better to reveal God’s glory to us than God himself?

This central premise, coupled with the fertile soil of friendship between Mac Powell (Third Day) and speaker/author/minister David Nasser, gave birth to Glory Revealed, a new multi-artist worship project taking lyrics directly from scripture.

“The glory of the Lord is best revealed in His Word,” David Nasser passionately explains, “When we begin to dig into the truth that is found in the pages of the bible, we will begin to see His glory revealed.”

Powell whole-heartedly agreed and began producing an album with contributing vocals from friends such as Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith and David Crowder, just to name a few. The project’s rootsy, Americana style and scriptural content provides a beautiful backdrop for bible study, reflection and worship.

What’s refreshing about this album is that it passes my “God is my girlfriend” test.  Often times a lot of Christian music can be sung to your girlfriend with such ambiguous lyrics where one must really try to determine if the song is about the God of the universe.  The blue-grass style of music is also a nice theme throughout.  I’m not a real big fan of the banjo but with such great melodies and lyrics I cannot help but play ALL the songs.  Personal favorites are “Restore to Me”, “Waters gone by”, “Who is like you”, and “By His wounds.”

What’s interesting is that there’s a song entitled, “You Alone”, by Brian Litrell in there – yup the ex-backstreet boy!  From “Quit Playing Games with My Heart” to “Great and marvelous are Your deeds, Lord God Almighty!”
