My favorite firefox hack: keyword searches

If you’ve graduated from Microsoft Internet Explorer and using Firefox, here’s one amazing hack you can do to shorten your time typing in URLs.  Firefox has an open extension API where developers can create little plugins to help your browsing experience.  One little plugin called OpenBook allows you type in a keyword in your URL address bar and take you to the complete URL.

However the hack is not in this plugin but in how you can add variables in your bookmarked URLs.  Basically you can concoct any URL that you want, add the query variable in the URL, type the keyword in the URL followed by your query term and OpenBook will automagically construct the complete URL.

Combine that with powerful google searches you’ve got one awesome search.
