There is a higher throne

Kaz recently gave me the In Christ Alone CD and I am very much enjoying it.  Track 1, “There is a Higher Throne” is quite simply a captivating song sung wonderfully by Kristyn Getty.

I enjoy songs about the cross, about the lamb who was slain for us, about God’s love, about our victory over death but I especially enjoy songs about my eternal home in heaven.  Heaven reminds me that I am not of this world and that Heaven is where my eternal rest will be.  Heaven is that place where my worship of Christ will be perfect, where I will be with my Lord, completely free from the penalty, power, and presence of sin.  Heaven is where my voice will no longer sing out of key, my guitar out of tune, my mind undistracted, and my heart’s affections no longer tempted by this world.  Heaven gives me hope and this song is wonderfully crafted from the glorious scene in  Rev 7:13-17.

Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.“Therefore they are before the throne of God,and serve him day and night in his temple;and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore;the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Here are the lyrics to “There is a Higher Throne” by the Getty’s:

There is a higher throne
Than all this world has known
Where faithful ones from every tongue
Will one day come
Before the Son we’ll stand
Made faultless through the Lamb
Believing hearts find promised grace
Salvation comes

Hear heaven’s voices sing
Their thunderous anthem rings
Through emerald courts and sapphire skies
Their praises rise
All glory, wisdom, power
Strength, thanks and honour are
To God our King who reigns on high
For evermore

And there we’ll find our home
Our life before the throne
We’ll honour Him in perfect song
Where we belong
He’ll wipe each tear-stained eye
As thirst and hunger die
The Lamb becomes our Shepherd King
We’ll reign with him.

Songs about heaven are in high demand for this listener.  This song of heaven is worth singing again and again!
