The Atonement and ER
I’m not a regular ER fan but found this clip regarding a dying doctor’s search for forgiveness fascinating. The TV show ER makes no claims regarding Christianity but the argument of this scene is very powerful. In our relativistic “I’ll believe whatever I wanna believe about God” society, this short scene speaks volumes of where such fallacious thinking can lead. He says, “I want a real chaplain who believes in a real God and a real hell!” The counselor seems a loss for answers when asked about absolutes knowing that the dying doctor has questions she cannot answer. The dying doctor wants intellectually honest answers that she cannot provide with her superficial and subjective opinions.
