Mike Thompson update #3

Here’s the latest update from Mike’s wife:

The Oncologist came in this afternoon and explained that indeed this is a cancer of the blood. Mike has a plasma cell cancer called Plasmacytoma (better than worse case) which is the one mass they surgically removed from his back. They performed a bone marrow biopsy to confirm if there is any other Plasmacytomas wich means it will be Multiple Myeloma (worse case). Early results would be in a few days.

Concerning plasmacytomas, there are two basic types–”solitary plasmacytoma of bone” and”extramedullary plasmacytoma.” Obviously, the plasmacytoma of bone starts in bone. In contrast, the “extramedullary” type starts in soft tissue like fat or muscle. These types have different characters. Generally, the “plasmacytoma of bone” is more likely to progress to multiple myeloma than “extramedullary plasmacytoma. Multiple plasmacytomas are multiple myeloma by definition.

Please pray this is NOT Mulitple Myeloma which would be negative results on the bone biopsy. Please pass this along to all friends and family and churches asking them to pray for Mike and negative results regarding this bone biopsy.

Posted in cancer, prayer.
