Running and my New Balance 740 shoes

I recently purchased a new pair of New Balance running shoes from the local sporting goods store for $50.  I’ve always purchased Nike or Adidas running shoes with great satisfaction.  However as of late I’ve been running a bit more and started getting blisters from my Adidas running shoe.  I’ve tried a variety of socks and lace snugness but the blister keeps coming back.  I don’t think my feet are changing but I think that possibly the varying pace or my new run has affected how my foot hits the ground.

My old running habits have been to start at a slow pace for about 5 minutes and then increase to a sustained medium (7mph) pace for 25-35 minutes and sprint for the last 2 minutes(9mph).  At the end of that run I feel great and my feet were always fine.

My new running plan is to start running at a speed of 6mph for 2 minutes, then 7mph at 1 minute, then 8mph, at 1 minute, and then 9mph for 1 minute.  At the end of the 9mph pace I bring it back down to 6mph for 1 minute and start over again.  I do this increasing interval for a total of 20 minutes.  The last 2 minutes I run at 10mph to sprint as fast as I could and the 21st minute I cool down at 5mph.

After this short 20 minute run I am drenched with sweat and spent.  With the New Balance 740s my feet feel absolutely fantastic.  No blisters and mentally I don’t have to worry about it as I’m in the 15th minute when I would normally imagine my blister re-opening.

If you’re shopping for a new pair of running shoes, I would recommend New Balance for their overall comfort and wide variety of shoe sizes from narrow to extra wide feet.

If you ever get the chance to run at Muir Woods, I’d yell out “Run Forest!” Just ’cause I’ve always wanted to do that :)
