How an Obama Presidency will be good for Christians

In the eve of our presidential election I’ve thought about what it would mean if Obama wins the presidency and the thousands of appointments that go with his administration. Maybe I’ve planned for the worse but hopefully it has been the Lord making me think of how He will continue to be on His throne and uphold His sovereignty over any leader (as I’ve alluded to here).

Here’s a few thoughts on how the controversial issues of an Obama presidency will be good for Christians.

  • It will be good for families. The abortion issues in an Obama presidency will be re-visited (some possibly overturned) and can display the devaluing of human life, the graphic nature of abortion killings, and how God can comfort the mother’s who are haunted by decisions they made when forced to destroy their child. It is a clear object lesson to families of how precious life is. 12 million black babies have been destroyed since 1973. While the Obama administration will cover and spin the issue of murder it will can be good because abortion does the unthinkable which is cause pain, suffering, and destruction of marriages. Therapy, psychiatry, Oprah, Dr. Phil will not comfort mothers, fathers or siblings who resent spouses or their parents for aborting children. This is an opportunity for Christians to show that only Christ can transform and comfort the downcast.
  • It will be good for marriage. The homosexual agenda is stronger now than it has ever been. With California’s prop 8 expected to lose it would legalize same-sex marriage. The stage is set for homosexuals to fight for their next battle once they’ve redefined marriage. The civil rights card has been abused and the faulty comparisons to homosexual unions along with animal rights is an absolute insult to the black person. Will marriages be ruined because of prop 8? I don’t think so. If anything, Christians will realize that marriage is not legitimized by the culture. Marriage is transcendent because it is not a human institution but a divine institution. Our culture will continue to redefine itself, its terms, and its values. Even if the laws in our land are completely turned upside down, Christians will have opportunity to display Christ in the original design of marriage when husbands love their wives as Christ loved the church and wives submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ. This should put an utterly stark contrast to Christ-centered marriages and homosexual unions.
  • It will display the power of Christ. Consider the opportunities to witness Christ to a nation that rests its hope on legislating through government to change people’s lives. I would add that all our bitter feelings toward President Obama and a loss is a reminder that Heaven is our home. This is a momentary election one of many which will possibly not follow Christian values.

God has pre-destined the outcome of this election and the elections that come after it. He knows our frame. The sovereignty of God however does not cancel our responsibility to vote or do what we can to allow changes that we believe are morally right. However when one votes and a leader is elected that goes against fundamental issues for Christians, we (myself included) must remember that God appoints leaders and channels their hearts to do all that is according to His will for our good.

As I had hoped, the Obama presidency has already sparked sober thoughts about marriage and abortion. Here’s two from Justin Taylor’s blog:

    Expect more to come …
