Stacked Weekend
This weekend is quite unique in that three major sporting events (that I care about) are happening.
- Saturday we have UFC 94 where BJ Penn attempts to simultaneously hold two championship belts for two weight-classes.
- Sunday starts off with the Australian Open Final with #1 vs. #2 (Federer vs. Nadal)
- Sunday ends with the contest of contests, the Superbowl.
When I watch humans do amazing feats in their individual sporting events I go through a series of emotions:
- “Man I wish I was taller”
- “Wow he’s retiring already, why he’s my age?!”
- “How in the world did he do that?!”
One thought also is that man was made in the image of God. The athleticism and abilities of humans are from a blueprint that God has designed. Does God take pleasure in God-hating, rebellious, sexually promiscuous athletes? Of course not. However I can’t help but wonder that these athletes were made in the image of God. There is a glory in their ability (not to be confused with their character) to do great things that echo the handiwork of their Creator.
